Durham, North Carolina, home of Durham Bulls baseball, lies in North Carolina’s central piedmont about 140 miles from the Appalachians, 130 miles from the Atlantic coast, and 25 miles from the Virginia border. The moderate climate allows for outdoor activities like golf, tennis, and hiking almost year-round in the nearly thirty square mile, single-city county. Home to Duke University, the city had an early influence in the civil rights movement and is well known for its historic role in the sit-in movements of the 1950’s and 60’s.
In recent years downtown Durham has undergone remarkable redevelopment and revitalization. Some would even call it an economic and cultural renaissance of sorts. The American Tobacco Campus is a great example of 21st century investment in Durham.
Chapel Hill is the quintessential college town and “the Most Livable City in the United States,” according to one national poll. With a population of about 65,000, Chapel Hill is both a relaxed, casual town and a hip, chic destination. The main campus of the University of North Carolina and nearby Research Triangle Park drive the local economy. Duke University in Durham and North Carolina State University in Raleigh provide more employment opportunities. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport is about 20 minutes away by car.
The Town of Pittsboro is the county seat of Chatham County, one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina. It's also just a short drive to the recreation areas at Jordan Lake State Park, where more than 1 million people visit annually to enjoy camping, boating, fishing, water sports, and hiking.
The Town of Hillsborough offers a small-town vibe and plenty of natural beauty. Hillsborough’s downtown historic district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it features homes, churches, schools, and other structures from the late 18th and 19th centuries. The town was established in 1754 where the Great Indian Trading Path crossed the Eno River. Hillsborough has easy access to both the Triangle and Triad regions via Interstates 85 & 40.

Apex is a southern suburb of Raleigh. With an estimated population of around 45,000, Apex has been able to keep its small town 'charm' that has earned its nickname 'the peak of good living.'
Apex was incorporated in 1873, and its slogan (The Peak of Good Living) was selected, in part, because Apex was the highest point along the Chatham Railroad. Apex's rapid growth began in the 1950s with the development of the Research Triangle Park.
Today, Apex is expanding largely towards the west, with new communities like Bella Casa, and growing infrastructure such as Friendship High School and various commercial developments. Areas closer to Route 1, or downtown, are more developed. Once you begin heading west or south, it becomes more rural.
The Town of Morrisville is centrally located in the Research Triangle Park Area, which is one of the largest research parks in the U.S. Biotechs, pharmaceutical corporations, the Raleigh-Durham international airport and various high-tech companies contribute to the thriving economy. Morrisville’s 18,500 residents enjoy its small town charm, mild winters, warm summers and access to the amenities, attractions and educational resources of nearby Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
